In a nutshell: After months of speculation Microsoft and developer Bungie have finally confirmed the existence of Halo 3, with a release date of 2007. Will you be able to wait that long for the biggest sequel ever on the Xbox? The lowdown: Well known for their secrecy Bungie have revealed almost nothing about Halo 3, beyond a short teaser trailer which shows Master Chief back on Earth with a huge Covenant fleet hovering above what looks like a massive Forerunner weapon. Cortanna is also featured, repeating, apparently at the behest of the Flood entity Gravemind, some ominous sounding comments about the end of the world. Beyond confirming that the trailer takes place on a Covenant controlled Earth (apparently the same area of Kenya from Halo 2) little else can be discerned about the game at the moment – except that the graphics look absolutely fantastic. Most exciting moment: The outstanding orchestral music at the start of the trailer, which leads to Master Chief striding out of a patch of smoke and rubble, is enough to get even the most lapsed of Halo fans’ pulses throbbing. Since you ask: Bungie have stated that this will be the last in the initial Halo trilogy of games, although this implies only the end of this particular storyline – not the series as a whole. The bottom line: The biggest Xbox game ever is finally on its way.
